I recently found a bunch of delicious pan tao peaches - so called flat peaches - and I decided to name this colourway after these age-old cultivars which have been grown in China since the 16th century. According to Chinese mythology, a legendary peach of immortality, shaped like the pantao peach, grew in the garden of Xiwangmu - when it ripened every 3000 years, the event was celebrated by a sumptuous banquet attended by the Baxian (or Eight Immortals).
